Celebrating 125 Years of Musical Theatre in the Manawatū


On 15 November 2025, Palmerston North Operatic Society marks a truly special milestone – 125 years to the day since our very first performance, Pirates of Penzance, opened in 1900.

Since that night, generations of passionate performers, creatives, and volunteers have continued to deliver outstanding musical theatre to the Manawatū. Through venue changes and even name changes, one thing has never wavered – the sense of whānau that pulls us together. He whānau tuatinitini - a family of many strands. Lifelong friendships are forged here, and our volunteers remain the heart of what makes theatre so special.

To honour this incredible journey, we invite you to celebrate with us on this historic date:
Memory Morning Tea

Enjoy our archives display showcasing 125 years of history – from beautifully preserved minutes to treasured programmes and photographs. Reminisce over a cup of tea and share stories with fellow members old and new. This is a free event.
Masquerade Dinner & Dance
📍 Regent on Broadway
🕕 6.00pm – 11.30pm
🎭 Formal dress code and mask

  • 6.00pm – Pre-function in the foyer with drinks & entertainment
  • 7.00pm – Seated on stage, speeches
  • 7.30pm – Dinner
  • 8.00pm – Performances
  • 8.30pm – Dessert
  • 9.00pm – Semitoned (band) & Dancing
  • 11.30pm – Conclusion of event
